Stay Comfortable During Treatment
Anesthesia Options
At Allen Oral Surgery & Implant Center, we understand the fear and anxiety that comes along with having dental surgery. We do our best to inform you about your surgery and anesthesia options to ensure that you are comfortable throughout the entire process. With informative, patient-focused care, your treatment will be as smooth as possible. Dr. Allen will evaluate you and review your health history as well as your needs and goals during a consultation, and work with you to help you make the best choice for your care.
numbing the area
Local Anesthetic
Local anesthetic is used in every surgical procedure our office performs. Anesthetic is injected in or around the area to be worked on ensuring that you are numb and pain free during your procedure. In addition to local anesthetic other anesthesia may be performed as follows.
Relieve Anxiety and Stress
Nitrous oxide Gas
Nitrous oxide also known as laughing gas is commonly used for patients who are a bit nervous but do not wish to be heavily sedated. This anesthesia option is administered through a mask that fits comfortably on your nose as you inhale. This option allows the patient to be awake while feeling calm and relaxed and aiding in pain control. These effects wear off soon after your treatment is complete, allowing you to drive yourself after your procedure.
Stay Comfortable During Procedures
IV sedation
Intravenous sedation typically involves anti-anxiety medication delivered directly to your bloodstream through an IV. This sedation option enables Dr. Allen to fine-tune your dosage during your treatment, and provide you with the proper sedation. This makes IV sedation ideal for extensive procedures, or for patients with severe dental anxiety. You will likely fall asleep during your treatment, and you won’t have any painful memories of your procedure. If IV sedation is used during your treatment, you will not be able to drive home afterward, so be sure to make appropriate transportation arrangements.
deep sedation
General Anesthesia
General anesthesia is usually only used for the most complex oral surgeries, or for procedures that will take an extensive amount of time to complete. This option helps patients sit still and stay comfortable for multiple hours of dental work, and can offer relief for patients who may be in extreme pain.
